Oak Keyring Terms of Service
These terms govern your use of Oak Keyring, the OpenKeyring project's local-first terminal password manager. By using Oak Keyring, you agree to these terms.
Preview software
Oak Keyring is pre-1.0 preview software. It is provided so users can try the product, validate installation paths, inspect the project, and provide early feedback before stable release guarantees exist.
Do not rely on this preview as your only password vault. Vault data, configuration, sync formats, platform support, packaging, and behavior may change before a stable release.
Open source license and project marks
Oak Keyring source code is distributed under the MIT License unless a specific file states otherwise. The open-source license governs your rights to copy, modify, and distribute the covered source code.
The open-source license does not grant rights to Oak Keyring names, logos, domains, or trademarks. Do not use project marks in a way that implies endorsement, official distribution, or affiliation unless OpenKeyring has authorized that use.
Your responsibility
You are responsible for your master password, recovery words, local device security, backups, and any Google Account used for optional Google Drive sync. Oak Keyring provides no hosted account recovery service and cannot recover your vault if you lose both your master password and your recovery words.
You should verify release assets before running them and back up vault data before upgrading between preview builds.
Optional Google Drive sync
Google Drive sync is optional. If you enable it, Oak Keyring uses Google OAuth2 and the https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file scope to synchronize Oak Keyring files that the app creates or that you explicitly make available to it.
You are responsible for complying with Google's terms for your Google Account and Google Drive. Revoking Google Drive authorization may stop Oak Keyring cloud sync until you authorize the app again.
Children
Oak Keyring is not directed to children under 13. You may not use Oak Keyring if you are not old enough to consent to these terms in your jurisdiction or if you are barred from using the software under applicable law.
No hosted custody or service level agreement
Oak Keyring is not a hosted password management service. OpenKeyring does not host your vault, operate a managed password recovery account, or promise continuous online availability for your local vault workflow.
Community support is best effort. There is no formal support SLA for the preview.
Acceptable use
You may not use Oak Keyring, the website, or related project resources to violate laws, attack systems, distribute malware, abuse OAuth flows, or interfere with the project or other users.
You are responsible for complying with export control and sanctions laws that may apply to your download, use, modification, or distribution of Oak Keyring.
Warranty disclaimer
Oak Keyring is provided as-is, without warranties of any kind to the maximum extent permitted by law. The project does not guarantee that the software will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure against every threat, compatible with future preview releases, or suitable for your particular use.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, OpenKeyring and its contributors are not liable for lost data, lost profits, business interruption, security incidents, account loss, or other damages arising from your use of Oak Keyring.
Governing law
To the extent permitted by applicable law, these terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the State of California, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Some jurisdictions may give you consumer rights that these terms cannot limit.
Changes and contact
These terms may change as Oak Keyring evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
